XVI | 10 THINGS OF THANKFUL | XVI

It was a busy weekend, or at least a busy Saturday. Some friends I made during NaNoWriMo got married, so the ladyfolk and I spent the day and evening celebrating with them. I probably should have drank, given the circumstances. You only (hopefully) get married once, right? I will make up for it another night. It was a beautiful wedding on a beautiful day. Perhaps I can get permission to use some pictures on Wednesday!

Despite a friend bringing a companion who didn’t know the meaning of not giving away movie spoilers, it was a fantastic experience and there was plenty to be Thankful for…

  1. The Wedding invite. I’m incredibly Thankful I was invited to my friend's wedding. When it was all being arranged I was sent a “Save the Date” letter (still unopened), but soon after found out that cuts had to be made. This mainly surrounded costs for food, and I understood. Being I knew the couple for only a brief span of time (since last Nov) it made sense I would be placed on the chopping block. In fact, I may have even offered myself up for the chopping block, though there was mention of me being an usher for the wedding. As it turned out, cuts were reduced, and they were able to invite their full guest list and even allow +1s!
  2. The Wedding itself. As I mentioned above, it was a fantastic wedding and the ceremony itself was simple and quicker than what I imagined. The couple looked great, and there were tears and laughs shared by all!
  3. The Weather of the Wedding Day. Earlier Saturday morning I took a stroll up to Rainbow Foods for some breakfast. The sky was thick with clouds that seemed to threaten the sunny forecast I had read about just the evening before. As the day progressed, though, the clouds broke and the sun shined down. It wasn’t overbearing, but just right.
  4. Not falling asleep during the wedding and following party. I had been up the night before at 3am and just couldn’t fall back to sleep. Maybe I was overly anxious about going to the wedding even though I played no part in it’s organization. I did, however, know there would be a fair share of people I wouldn’t know. I brought a 5-hour energy drink with just in case, but never had to use it.
  5. Seeing friends. I had met the bride during NaNoWriMo and over the past few months the NaNo group we all built began to dwindle in attendance at our chosen hangout locations. Many times I’d end up being the only one present. Almost all of them were at the wedding and I was very happy to see them.
Forgot to post this in my last [Mostly] Wordless Wednesday post
  6. Kate. I was thrilled to be able to finally introduce my girlfriend to this group of friends, and they seemed equally as thrilled to make her acquaintance.
  7. New clothing. I am way way behind on buying new clothes. I always have an excuse, the biggest being: I’m working out and will just need to buy new ones again. Yeah, still wearing the same sizes. I wear things until they are literally falling apart. The wedding offered me a reason to buy some new duds. I was able to pick up a nice pair of pants and a dressier shirt, as well as two simple t-shirts. All of them were on sale for half-off! I even bought a belt. My old one was being held together by literally two or three remaining strands at one section…
  8. My wedding gift. This may sound odd, and it wasn’t anything much more than a card really, but I will try to explain. Since buying my grandparent's 25th Anniversary card, and then adding to it, made me want to be a bit more creative with the wedding card. I wasn’t able to buy an extravagant gift, but I’d like to think the “thought that counts” and effort is very visible in my choices. The project itself caused some serious stress as I tried to figure out how to get it just right. I hope to share it this Wednesday as well.
  9. A great week. Stepping away from the wedding listing, this week, in general, was relaxing (when not stressing about the wedding — so much for stepping away...) and I was able to get in plenty of time with my girlfriend. More good foods and fun times together. She was a real trooper this weekend taking on the task of meeting my friends. Unfortunately for her, there are still many more to go…
  10. Random things that get me to be creative. The wedding and inspiration to create additional offerings for the card is one example. A Blog post resulting in the comment I left is another. My sense of humor is usually an acquired taste, but I feel I have my moments. If nothing else, I made myself laugh and did so at no one else’s expense. You can’t beat that!

Feel free to leave your Thankful List in the comments below, if you aren’t participating directly with the blog hop!

  1. It was a fun wedding and I loved your gift. It did require some extra time, so I am glad you started when you did.

Ha! I don't think it is unfortunate to meet your friends, silly.

I hope you continue to find things that inspire you to be creative. I love when your creative side comes out, because creativity is something we both share. I hope that we always find ways to be creative together. <3

    1. It's partially because I kept changing my mind, but am happy with what I picked, even if it wasn't optimal to their tastes.

Well, that is good, because plenty more to meet.

Me too. I need it to happen way way more often than it does... and when it does I have to beat down the lack of motivation that generally accompanies it...

  2. I am also thankful you were able to make it to the wedding--it's been too long, and it was great to get to meet your ladyfriend as well. I certainly hope I wasn't too off-putting...

    1. Definitely can't allow so much time to pass before hanging out again, but with NaNo coming up that shouldn't be an issue.

      However...

Jak: See you soon, during NaNo.
      Bride: Maybe sooner!
Jak: *blank stare* *Laughs* *Laughs some more* *Walks away laughing*

  3. Sounds like a great day! I haven't been to a wedding in such a long time. I'm at the age where all my friends are married, and now we're waiting on the weddings of our children. My word, that sounds awful to my ears.
Glad you and Kate had a good time. Perhaps next time you can stress a little bit less leading up to an event.

    1. There were so many weddings this year, but this was the only one I attended >.< or... was invited to? Yeah, I'd imagine you aren't much for thinking about your children getting married and having their own children. Stress/anxiety is almost always present for most any kind of event big or small...

    1. Thanks, I was actually pretty worried. I'm really surprised I didn't have to use my 5-Hour energy drink!

  5. What an excellent day! So glad that you got to introduce your girlfriend to your NANOWRIMO friends and that everybody had such a great time. No drinking huh? At a wedding? Wow, not sure that I've tried that one ;)
Congrats on the new clothes as well.

    1. It was about time... I think she had hinted over some time about wanting to meet them (likely at the group write ins that continued after NaNo), but most of them stopped attending the get togethers. The wedding was a good place to meet all of them at once! I rarely drink period, so it's pretty much my lifestyle haha, though I like to throw down on some big/fun occasions. I only got clothes for the wedding, so I've many more I need to buy.

Hope my comment on your FB section of your post wasn't too vulgar...

    1. Ha it was, but he just seemed excited/passionate about them so no big deal. He seemed pretty cool, even if I did want a gorilla to pummel his face with its penis.

      Indeed she is.

    1. Was a great time. I am not really much for weddings, but was really glad I was invited and attended this one :-)

  8. In my experience weddings can be great or really bad so sounds like the former in this case! New clothing is always a plus but I get the shopping part is a drag ... I don't think its time for me as much as general dislike of the experience... maybe its a girlie thing... no I know far too many who love it!...its just me. Glad you had a great time and by the comments above sounds like friends did too.

    1. I agree, and thankfully this one was good. I'm definitely not much for shopping for anything beyond electronics/gaming >.> That's kind of my vice, though it's been some time since splurging on anything in general.

I believe everyone had a fun time! Thanks or stopping by!

  9. That sounds really awesome Jak, and I love that you put so much thought and effort into the gift - that makes it much more special than something just bought from a shop.

And HEY buddy - new clothes are gonna make you feel all new and shiny! I hope you really enjoyed being smart. It took me many many many years to appreciate the niceness of new clothes, and now I have, I am almost beginning to enjoy going shopping for them (sometimes).

    What a great post :D

    1. Thanks, Lizzi. I will try to share the pic I put on the card to spruce it up some, which I felt had multiple meanings behind it. Need to get caught up on some of this hop stuff first...

Well, I did feel pretty good in the new clothes I bought :-) Not sure where the smart comment comes from, though, offhand.

  10. Yes, attending a wedding IS a good excuse to buy some new clothes. Weddings are mostly fun, and I always like to dance to the live bands. The weirdest ever wedding I went to, had the bride and groom rising up from the floor below, in their own kind of gazebo. Totally sci-fi.

    1. Definitely wanted new clothing for the wedding, so I still have to find time to buy some more, but we will see...

There was a DJ at this wedding, but to be honest, the music selection wasn't very appealing to me >.< That didn't matter much, however, as I had no real intentions of dancing!

That wedding sounds like it was pretty epic. That is quite an entrance!

  11. I totally get the reason not to buy new clothes! I will say this, I have used that very reason (more in the past than is recent years...being all buffed-out and such).

Good work on the gift, it is not just the thought that counts, it's the intent, it's the heart... the rest is everyone else's responsibility. Good deal with the getting out and doing strange things with good people and good things with strange people.

    Friends is good.

    1. Yeah, my reasoning really fails when I am not really hardcore into getting into superduper shape, which at my age is getting more and more challenging. May have to just bite the bullet at some point...

I feel I put a lot of thought into whatever gifts I purchase when able. Sometimes gift cards slip in, but I myself always love receiving gift cards. *Shrugs*

Sadly, I hadn't thought about it, but I was actually up during the time frame of the Breakfast Brunch! I didn't even think of it, though. Had breakfast and watched some shows, before eventually passing back out. Need to try to be more mindful next time!
